Companies may have to register more than 33,000 types of polymers, which are substances used to make plastics, in line with the European Union’s chemicals law, the bloc’s executive arm said Thursday.
Polymers, formed by combining molecules from simpler monomer chemicals, are now exempt from registration. But a requirement could be imposed as part of a wider-ranging proposed revision of REACH (Regulation No. 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation, authorization, and restriction of chemicals), the European Commission said in consultation documents.
