The European Union urgently needs to adopt a carbon-border adjustment tax and a tax on plastics and also should put in place a levy on emissions trading permits in advance of upcoming May 23-26 elections, European Parliament members said.
European Parliament Budget Committee members, which have approved the measures, insisted that the green taxes are vital to prove the bloc’s effective role in tackling climate change. The measures also would help shore up EU finances in the wake of Brexit, they said.
