EU Lawmakers Back Move to Slash Methane From Oil and Gas Imports

The European Union may extend tough curbs on methane emissions to fossil-fuel importers after lawmakers backed the move Wednesday.

The rules would force importers to cut methane leaks from their supply chains, long a major source of emissions from the oil and gas industries. The EU has called for greater efforts to tackle the pollutant, which has about 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide during its first 20 years in the atmosphere.
