The European Commission and Germany reached a precedent-setting agreement that resolves a dispute over new subsidy rules on energy-intensive German companies’ exemptions from surcharges imposed in order to help finance feed-in tariffs renewable energies such as wind and solar power.
Also, the EU executive body said the two sides were close to an agreement to resolve a pending illegal state aid investigation into a previous German renewable energy law that left hundreds of German energy-intensive energy companies facing the prospect of paying back in total more than $5 billion.
