BRUSSELS—The EU Council announced Dec. 11 that it has formally adopted emission standards for motorcycles to apply uniformly throughout the European Union. The measure is part of a broader regulation that also covers motorcycle safety standards. Under the regulation, motorcycles and mopeds sold in the European Union will have to conform with the Euro 5 emission standards by 2020. The Euro standards limit emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and fine particles. The European Parliament approved the measure in November (224 DEN A-3, 11/21/12).
