EU Chemicals Agency to List 54 Substances For Possible Bans Under REACH Legislation

BRUSSELS—The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Dec. 17 said it will add 54 substances to a candidate list of chemicals that could be banned under the European Union’s REACH law (Regulation No. 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation, and authorization of chemicals).

The addition will bring the number of substances on the list to 138. ECHA said the addition of 23 substances was agreed to by a committee of experts from EU member states that met Dec. 10-13, while 31 substances were listed without consideration by the committee. ECHA said it will update the candidate list before Dec. 25.
