Equinor’s Offshore Wind Farm Near New York Wins Final Approval

Equinor ASA’s planned 2.1 gigawatt Empire Wind project off the New York coast won its final needed approval from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management on Thursday.

  • The project, roughly 12 nautical miles south of Long Island, NY, and 16.9 nm east of Long Branch, NJ, is set to comprise of as many as 147 wind turbines across two separate facilities
  • The Interior Department had already issued a record of decision blessing the project last November; Thursday’s action represents a formal approval of the Empire Wind construction and operations plan
