EPA’s Superfund Focus Turns to Vulnerable Communities

The EPA wants to know how its efforts to redevelop contaminated sites can benefit low-income and other vulnerable communities.

At the Environmental Protection Agency’s request, the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council will consider how the Superfund program can more effectively address the needs of communities living near contaminated sites. The independent council voted Nov. 28 to provide recommendations to EPA Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler.

The primary questions the EPA wants answered by June 1 are about how to ensure equitable decision making throughout the cleanup process.
