Environmental groups will ask a federal court on Monday to set deadlines for the EPA to analyze 22 chemicals that have the potential to harm people and the environment—a necessary step to determine whether the agency must restrict ways the compounds are used.
Earthjustice, a nonprofit public interest environmental law organization, filed a complaint with the US District Court for the District of Columbia, saying the Environmental Protection Agency’s delayed risk evaluations violated the 2016 Toxic Substances Control Act amendments.
The lawsuit will ask the court to order a binding timeline for EPA to complete the chemical risk evaluations.
