Rocket Fuel Chemical Avoids EPA Setting Drinking Water Standard

Perchlorate in drinking water won’t be regulated by the EPA—a decision that angered environmental groups that sued the agency in 2020 to force it to regulate the chemical.

The Environmental Protection Agency said it plans to “protect the public from perchlorate,” not by regulating it, but by continuing a 2020 Trump administration decision to avoid setting a perchlorate standard. Instead, the EPA is encouraging water systems to use money from the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help clean it up.
