EPA Water Official to Temporarily Take Reins Once Trump Leaves

Charlotte Bertrand, the policy chief at the EPA’s water office, will temporarily take over leadership of the agency at noon on Jan. 20 after President-elect Joe Biden is sworn in, the agency has confirmed.

Bertrand’s elevation to the acting administrator job would come under a White House executive order issued Jan. 8. The order maps out a line of succession for the agency in case of a death, resignation, or inability to perform the functions and duties of the Environmental Protection Agency administrator.

The plan also applies “once political appointees vacate their current offices,” said James Hewitt, an EPA spokesman. ...
