The EPA must tighten up its vetting procedures for research grants to shield its science from the Chinese government, according to a Wednesday report from the agency’s internal watchdog.
The Chinese government sponsors a “malign foreign talent recruitment program” that recruits Chinese students educated abroad to return to China and provide technological and scientific information, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Inspector General.
More than 7,000 scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and finance experts have been recruited into the program since 2008.
