EPA to Verify Chemical Production Before Billing Manufacturers

The EPA will double-check that certain chemical manufacturers make at least one of 20 chemicals before adding them to a list of companies responsible for paying a total $27 million to the agency later this year, an agency official said Wednesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency will also consider whether the economic problems companies are experiencing due to the coronavirus pandemic warrant a fee payment schedule, said Ryan Schmit, a special assistant in the EPA’s chemicals office.
