EPA to Start Buyouts, Continue Hiring Freeze

A hiring freeze will continue and early retirement and buyout offers will begin at the Environmental Protection Agency, according to a newly released agency memo.

John O’Grady, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Council 238, released the agency’s April 17 internal memo to the public through an email. Council 238 represents EPA employees.

The EPA’s freeze started Jan. 22 when President Donald Trump ordered a 90-day freeze on hiring at all agencies. That order expires April 22, but the EPA has announced it will continue its freeze beyond that point. Trump has proposed the EPA ...
