EPA to Release Carbon Labeling Program for Building Materials

The Biden administration on Wednesday will release a plan for a labeling program to identify low-carbon construction materials.

It’s a key step for the White House because building materials account for more than 15% of global carbon emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

To put a dent in that number, the administration is trying to promote the use of greener materials, through efforts like the federal Buy Clean Initiative. But the market for clean steel, glass, asphalt, and concrete is dwarfed by their traditional counterparts.
