EPA To Mitigate Pesticide Harms on Protected Species Under Deal

The EPA must develop a strategy to better protect endangered species from herbicides and insecticides, according to a settlement agreement with conservation groups that was approved Wednesday by a federal judge.

The agency’s herbicide strategy is due by 2024 and the insecticide strategy is due by 2025, the settlement said.

The deal stems from a lawsuit filed by Center for Biological Diversity and Pesticide Action Network North America, which claimed that the agency failed to consult on the effects of 382 pesticide active ingredients on numerous species protected by the Endangered Species Act.
