EPA to Extend Deadline for Gulf Oil Drilling Pollution Limits

Offshore oil companies will be allowed to discharge fracking fluids and other pollutants into parts of the Gulf of Mexico another two years under a permit compliance deadline extension EPA proposed Monday.

The Environmental Protection Agency plans to extend the compliance deadline from May 2025 to May 2028 for a general permit for toxicity limits on drilling fluid discharges into the central Gulf of Mexico off the Louisiana coast under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, according to the Federal Register public inspection notice.
