EPA Taps Former General Counsel Avi Garbow to Top Adviser Job

Avi Garbow, the Environmental Protection Agency’s general counsel during the Obama administration, will become senior counselor to the incoming agency head, the EPA announced Wednesday.

Garbow, who served as the agency’s chief legal adviser for almost the entirety of President Barack Obama’s tenure, will play a crucial role in shaping high-level environmental policy within the Biden administration.

He has been a federal environmental crimes prosecutor at the Justice Department, a partner at the law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, and most recently an environmental advocate at Patagonia.
