EPA Sued Over Challenge to Chemical Import, Manufacture Rule (1)

The Environmental Defense Fund is challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s final rule updating procedures under the Toxic Substances Control Act for companies that want to import or make new chemicals in the US.

The rule also makes perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances ineligible for low volume or low release and exposure exemptions, which let some chemicals go through a shorter review process before getting the green light for manufacture. It also gets rid of such exemptions for persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic chemicals when environmental releases are expected.
