EPA Sets Glyphosate Residue Limits

The Environmental Protection Agency published a final rule May 1 establishing new maximum residue limits, or tolerances, for the herbicide glyphosate on various commodities (78 Fed. Reg. 25,396). The final rule, issued in response to a petition filed by IR-4, establishes new tolerances for herbicide residues on several crop groups, including citrus fruit, pome fruit, fruiting vegetables, root vegetables, and berries and small fruit. EPA established the tolerances after determining that there is a “reasonably certainty that no harm will result” to human health, including infants and children, from exposure to glyphosate residues.
