EPA Sends FEMA Some Protective Equipment for Pandemic Response

May 13, 2020, 6:16 PM UTC

The EPA is shifting almost 9,500 pieces of protective equipment to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help it respond to the coronavirus.

  • The Environmental Protection Agency’s air and radiation office uses protective equipment for lab work and to respond to emergencies.
  • “EPA is transferring the excess equipment while still maintaining its emergency response readiness,” the agency said in a Wednesday press release. Among the items are face shields, protective disposable gloves, and full-body protective suits.
  • FEMA, which is leading the federal response to the coronavirus crisis, this week said it would shift some acquisition of Covid-19 supplies to the Defense Logistics Agency, a subset of the Defense Department. That includes longer-term purchasing of supplies like personal protective equipment.
