EPA Rule Would Narrow Producer, Importer Duty to Report PFAS

The EPA is proposing to significantly reduce the amount of information that chemical manufacturers and importers of goods made with PFAS would have to report to the agency.

The Environmental Protection Agency released a proposed rule Monday revising a 2023 congressionally mandated rule that required industries to provide 11 years of information about per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) they produced or imported.

The rule would include many exemptions and modifications previously suggested by industries to make it easier for companies to comply with one of the largest data-collection efforts the agency’s chemicals office has undertaken.
