EPA Reopens Comments for Bee-Killing Pesticide in Unusual Move

The EPA is reopening the comment period for neonicotinoid insecticides more than two weeks after comments closed, in a move environmental groups say is highly unusual.

Neonicotinoids are a class of systemic insecticides commonly applied as a seed coating on corn, soybeans, and cotton. In recent years, so-called “neonics” have come under increasing regulatory scrutiny because of their significant toxicity to honey bees and other insects.
