The EPA released a fact sheet on Thursday clarifying guidance on when to use backup generators with certain combustion engines typically reserved for emergencies to ensure electrical grids can meet data centers’ needs for reliable power.

The fact sheet listed the conditions that have to be met for emergency engines to operate for up to 50 hours per year in non-emergency situations to supply power as part of a financial arrangement with another entity.
