The Environmental Protection Agency released on Thursday its annual Inventory of US Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks, according to the agency.
Net greenhouse gas emissions in 2021 experienced a 6% increase from 2020, according to the report. The EPA attributed that rise to increased economic activity following the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Emissions have declined by 17% overall since 2005, the EPA said.
The inventory includes an overview of the annual nationwide emissions from 1990 to 2021. It tracks seven greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride, and nitrogen trifluoride.
