EPA Reaches Two Settlement Agreements For Indiana Superfund Site

The Environmental Protection Agency has finalized two settlement agreements regarding the cleanup of lead and arsenic at the former West Calumet Housing Complex property in Zone 1 of the USS Lead Superfund site in East Chicago, Ind., according to the agency Wednesday.

The agency said it finalized a prospective purchaser agreement, which will require the new owner of the property, Industrial Development Advantage of East Chicago LLC, to conduct the cleanup.

An administrative settlement agreement and order on consent will also require five companies who owned and operated lead-processing facilities in East Chicago to pay the future oversight costs incurred ...
