The EPA on Monday proposed limits for perchlorate in drinking water as a response to a 2023 federal appeals court ruling requiring the agency to regulate the chemical, but the EPA said it would rather not do so due to the costs.
The Environmental Protection Agency is considering setting the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for perchlorate at 0.02 milligrams per liter, 0.04 milligrams per liter, or 0.08 milligrams per liter, according to a Federal Register public inspection notice.
