EPA Proposes to Roll Back Limits on Planet-Warming Refrigerants

The EPA said Tuesday it’s planning to trim back a Biden-era effort to gradually phase out the use of a common refrigerant that’s also a potent greenhouse gas.

The Trump administration’s proposed rule would give supermarkets, warehouses, manufacturers, and others more time to comply with the phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), according to a notice of proposed rulemaking.

Those changes are necessary because the Biden administration didn’t give industry enough time before finalizing its rule, making it impossible for them to meet the compliance deadlines, the Environmental Protection Agency said in a statement.
