EPA Poised to Issue Guidance on Plant ‘Biostimulants’

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to soon release a guidance document to help state regulators dealing with a growing wave of biostimulant products.

“Plant biostimulant” is a broad term given to naturally derived soil and plant additives used to stimulate growth and promote resilience.

Biostimulants often involve adding beneficial fungi, micro-organisms, or other bacteria to promote root growth or nutrient uptake.

The Office of Management and Budget approved “Guidance for Plant Biostimulant Products: Label Claims Excluded or Regulated Under FIFRA as Plant Regulator Claims” on March 8.
