EPA Mulls Restrictions That Could Block Alaska Pebble Gold Mine

The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday told developers hoping to mine gold near Alaska’s Bristol Bay it is planning to advance new restrictions, which have the potential to thwart the Pebble project.

  • The EPA “continues to have reason to believe that the discharge of dredged or fill material associated with mining the Pebble deposit could result in unacceptable adverse effects on important fishery areas,” the agency said in a letter to officials including the head of Pebble Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd
