The EPA wants to know whether additional regulations for PFAS chemicals under federal cleanup and waste management statutes are needed to protect the environment and public health.
The Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday that it’s focusing on potentially regulating two per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances known as PFOA and PFOS, some of the most well-studied of the larger group of thousands of chemicals.
The chemicals may cause adverse health effects, and have been found in groundwater, drinking water, landfill leachate, dust, and wastewater, according to the agency.
