EPA Issues Interstate Air Pollution Rule Fix for Summer Ozone

A long-awaited update to traveling pollution rules released Monday gives upwind states fresh requirements to manage their emission reductions in downwind states that struggle with ozone pollution.

The Environmental Protection Agency met its court-mandated deadline for a new update (RIN: 2060-AU84) to the Clean Air Act’s Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, which helps Northeast states meet 2008 National Ambient Air Quality Standards, or NAAQS, for ozone by curbing air pollution that travels into other airspaces from heavily-industrialized upwind states.
