A coalition of House Democrats is pressing the EPA to crack down on greenhouse gases from the cryptocurrency sector, one of the nation’s fastest-growing emissions sources.

The call to action focuses on cryptocurrency miners that are trying to re-open closed fossil fuel plants to power their operations.

Beyond that relatively small slice of the industry, the letter spotlights a tension for the Biden administration: It wants to cut greenhouse gases in half by 2030, but the Environmental Protection Agency broadly doesn’t regulate energy usage by specific consumers or industries.
