EPA, Illinois Reach $3 Million Settlement To Cut Chicago-Based Copper Smelter Fumes

CHICAGO—A Chicago copper alloy foundry criticized for its lead emissions in a minority neighborhood in Chicago will spend $3 million on new pollution control equipment and pay a civil penalty under the terms of a proposed consent decree reached Jan. 31 with the Environmental Protection Agency and Illinois (United States v. H. Kramer & Co.).

EPA announced H. Kramer & Co. had entered into the proposed consent decree resolving violations under the Clean Air Act and state air pollution standards.
