Revised wastewater testing methods required by the EPA under the Clean Water Act are being finalized this week, according to a Federal Register pre-publication notice issued Monday.
The effluent testing procedures, proposed in early 2023, require companies and water systems that discharge wastewater into streams to analyze the physical, chemical, and biological properties of their effluent and report it to the Environmental Protection Agency. The reporting is part of its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit program.
The rule revises membrane filtration methods for detection of bacteria including E. coli and enterococci last approved between 2002 and 2014.
