Power plants face updated air toxics requirements targeting mercury and heavy metals in newly finalized standards announced by the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday.
The final Mercury and Air Toxics Standards, or MATS, tighten the allowable emission limits for mercury and other heavy metal hazardous air pollutants from power plants and lignite-fired units, as well as require continuous emissions monitoring.
