EPA Sets Stricter Good Neighbor Plans for Wandering Ozone (1)

New states and sectors will be on the hook for stricter traveling ozone rules finalized by the EPA on Wednesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency proposed the so-called good neighbor plan in March 2022 as part of the 2015 National Ambient Air Quality Standards for ozone. The rules aim to stem smog pollution that travels to downwind states and compromises air quality.

California, Nevada, and Utah will now be included in the standards alongside eastern states commonly regulated for wandering ozone. New industries, such as natural gas and cement, in 20 states will join power plants as regulated sectors.
