The EPA is failing to ensure its approval of Washington state’s water quality standard for cyanide isn’t putting salmon, whales, and other protected species at risk, an environmental group told a federal court in Washington, D.C., Thursday.

The Environmental Protection Agency is required under the Endangered Species Act to ensure its approvals aren’t putting a protected species at risk, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
