EPA Expands Toxics Reporting to 29 Ethylene Oxide Facilities

The Environmental Protection Agency is broadening toxic chemical reporting requirements to dozens of facilities that use the carcinogenic compound ethylene oxide, according to a Monday announcement.

Twenty-nine facilities that do not currently report their ethylene oxide releases will now have increased reporting requirements under Toxics Release Inventory rules. Sixteen facilities will do the same for their ethylene glycol emissions.

Those facilities, which sterilize medical equipment, were sent letters in October informing them that the agency would be considering upping their reporting requirements.
