EPA Defends Emission Rule Extension for Iron and Steel Sector

The EPA reasonably extended deadlines for steel and iron air emission rules based on the feasibility of required control technology, according to an agency response filed in the DC Circuit on Monday.

Environmental groups can’t ask to vacate compliance exemptions for the integrated iron and steel sector, since the Environmental Protection Agency “lawfully invoked the good-cause exception” when it moved deadlines to 2027 in an interim final rule, the agency argues.
