EPA Defeats Groups’ Bid to Compel Specific Chemours PFAS Testing

The US Environmental Protection Agency escaped claims brought by groups who say the agency effectively denied its petition to require Chemours Co. to test PFAS, after a federal judge found that the EPA granted the petition.

A coalition of six environmental and community groups originally petitioned in the EPA to order Chemours to test the health and environmental effects of 54 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that the groups said its Fayetteville, N.C. factory released into the environment.

Chemours and its predecessor, E.I. du Pont de Nemours, discharged PFAS into the atmosphere and adjacent Cape Fear River, the petition alleged.
