GenX chemicals are the most hazardous of any of four “forever chemicals” reviewed by the EPA, according to final agency analyses released Monday.
The Environmental Protection Agency published its final human health toxicity assessment for hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) dimer acid and its ammonium salt, commonly referred to as “GenX chemicals.”
The amount of GenX that people could ingest daily over their lifetime without expected harm is significantly less—0.000003 milligrams per kilogram bodyweight per day—than the concentration the EPA has set for three other per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, reviewed since 2016.
