The EPA’s authorization of the use of a radioactive material in roads will unnecessarily expose the public, especially road construction workers, to cancer risk, according to a coalition of environmental groups and construction unions challenging the decision in a Washington, D.C., federal court.
The petition for review, filed Friday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, challenges the Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of a request by The Fertilizer Institute for the use of phosphogypsum in government road projects.
