EPA Cancels Pesticide Dacthal Known to Jeopardize Babies’ Health

The pesticide Dacthal was formally taken out of the US market by the EPA on Tuesday.

The final cancellation bars anyone from using, selling, or distributing any of the relatively few remaining products containing dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate.

Dacthal had been registered to control weeds, but was mostly used on crops such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, and onions.

“With the final cancellation of DCPA, we’re taking a definitive step to protect pregnant women and their unborn babies,” Michal Freedhoff, head of the Environmental Protection Agency’s chemical division, said in a statement.
