EPA Announces Final Rule to Reduce Climate-Damaging Chemicals

The EPA issued a final rule to execute a 40% reduction in the use of climate super-pollutant hydrofluorocarbons below historic levels from 2024 to 2028, according to the agency Tuesday.

The rule follows the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act’s goals to reduce the production and consumption of HFCs by 85% by 2036. The phasedown was initiated in January 2022 with a reduction of both HFC production and imports to 10% below historic baseline levels, the Environmental Protection Agency said.
