EPA Airplane Emissions Rule Draws Suit Over Particulate Matter

Environmental groups sued the Environmental Protection Agency over a rule they claim doesn’t do enough to stem deadly particulate matter emissions from aircraft.

The agency’s November 2022 “outdated, ineffective” emission standards for aircraft engines won’t adequately reduce particulate matter emissions from planes, according to a press release from the Center for Biological Diversity, one of the plaintiffs on the petition.

The Center for Biological Diversity, Friends of the Earth, and the Sierra Club filed the petition for review at the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Jan. 20.
