The EPA released a final hazardous air pollutants rule for chemical manufacturers Tuesday that tightens equipment controls for air toxics, but drops proposed controls on ethylene oxide.
The final rule, which officially will be published April 1, sets National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs) for Chemical Manufacturing Area Sources. NESHAPs control hazardous air pollutants, also known as air toxics, by reducing emissions from equipment and manufacturing processes such as vents, storage tanks, equipment leaks, wastewater streams, transfer operations and heat exchange systems.
