EPA Adds Climate Change to List of Enforcement Priorities (1)

The EPA has added the mitigation of climate change to its list of enforcement priorities for the first time, the agency said on Thursday.

The new effort will focus especially on methane emissions from oil and gas facilities; methane emissions from landfills; and the use, importation, and production of hydrofluorocarbons. The Environmental Protection Agency said it has documented widespread noncompliance in all three of those areas.

Other first-ever enforcement priorities include addressing exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and protecting communities from carcinogenic coal ash, according to the EPA’s new list of national enforcement and compliance initiatives.
