Environmentalists Try to Stop Idaho Stibnite Mine Pending Appeal

A coalition of environmental groups asked a federal court Tuesday to pause its order that paved the way for the nation’s first antimony mine to be built in central Idaho, pending the groups’ appeal to the Ninth Circuit.

The filing is the latest development in a tussle pitting conservationists against the Trump administration, which wants to wean the US off foreign supplies of antimony, which is used to make bullets and shrapnel. China is the world’s largest antimony producer, but it stopped exporting the mineral in 2024.
