Several environmental organizations sued the Trump administration, alleging the government didn’t follow federal law when it issued a permit for a California oil pipeline to restart operations.
The groups, including the Environmental Defense Center and the Sierra Club, allege the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration didn’t meet the requirements under the Pipeline Safety Act to issue an emergency special permit to Sable Offshore Corp. and also didn’t give the public required notice. They also allege PHMSA didn’t do the needed environmental review as required under the National Environmental Policy Act.
